The Granite Shoals Fire Department has been given a supply of Smoke detectors to establish a "Smoke Detector and Installation" Program. If you are in need of a smoke detector, please contact the Granite Shoals Fire Department and set up an appointment for installation or drop by the fire station and pick one up for your house.
Smoke Detectors were donated by the Law firm of Wayne Wright and Associates.
The Training this month was centered on Basic Firefighting Skills.

Advanced EMT-Basic Skills.
Apparatus and Equipment:

(Knox Boxes are Key safes that are required by fire code on new and renovated buildings within the district that contain keys to the building inside. The Fire department has a master key that opens all boxes within the city limits)
Annual Fire Hose Testing was completed.
Annual Ladder Testing was completed.

.Grants and Major Purchases and Projects:
One Grant was written to the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant for the purchase of a Class A Fire Engine to replace our 1985 Reserve Fire Engine.
If awarded the total of the Project is $340,000 in which the Government pays for 95% of the Project leaving us a balance of $17,000. This is a very competitive grant so we will hope for the best. We should know something within the next few months.
The Fire Hydrant project is almost complete, should finish by the middle of June 2010.
ESD News and Insurance Billing
I had an information meeting with the Wilderness Cove POA. They have had a change in POA board members and want to discuss the creation of an ESD with the City of Highland Haven in the next election. The meeting was very positive and I feel we are moving in the right direction to accomplish the forming of the ESD in the November 2010 Election.
An Insurance Billing company has been selected. I need a formal adoption of a city ordinance to allow for billing of services. Billing will only affect non-city residents or at fault citizens. Example non fault emergencies within the city are not billed, but any call in the county response area may be billed. If a city taxpayer is at fault of an emergency, such as arson or traffic violation causes an accident, the resident may receive a bill for service.
Auxiliary
We received a $500.00 donation from the Highland Haven Ladies Auxiliary
PEC donated a second $1000.00 donation to the Fire Auxiliary.

This certifies them as “Commissioned” Firefighters in the state of Texas allowing them to be hired and start their careers. Lt John Morrision, FF. Joshua Phillips, and FF. Phillip Reeves, not only graduated but also were recognized at the academy as exceptional. All three received awards in Leadership, (Only five awarded in the class of about 40 FF) FF. Philips was the class valedictorian. The entire fire department is proud of their success and glad to have them back to share their knowledge with all the members of the department.
