Training:

Tuesday night training centered on Medical First Responder Certification, Fire  Hydrant Maintence and Fire Report Writing

Advanced Fire training included, Auto Extrication Training, and Incident Command.

Apparatus and Equipment:

The Fire department Web-site is up and running for 1 year and we have received 128,000 hits on the site. www.GSFD.us

All Apparatus are in Service with no Major Repairs Needed at this Time.

Grants and Major Purchases and Projects:

The Economic Stimulus Grant for Fire Station Construction has opened and awarded over 160 million in grants. We did not get out $250,000 remodel grant and should get the Final letter in April. This was a very competitive one time Grant. The entire State of Texas only received about 100 of these grants.

The Federal Grant Process (FEMA) will open their Grant applications within the next few weeks. I have attended a Grant work shop that was in Leander and have gotten some good info on Federal Grant Writing

ESD News.

Insurance Billing is in the Works as a temporary funding Solution. This will probably show up in the 2nd council meeting in april for a vote.

I will open discussions with Highland Haven on Forming an ESD in November sometime in March.

Auxiliary

The Fire auxiliary will soon be getting a bi-weekly donation from the Charity Bingo Program. This program also funds the Granite Shoals Chapter of the fraternal order of the Eagles. These Funds should be around $1500.00 per month.

Department News

The Fire Department has started our Annual Fire Hydrant, Paint, Test and Inspection program. All Fire Hydrants will be Painted to NFPA standards grass and tree limbs that obstruct the Hydrant will be trimmed  and all Hydrant will flow water for about 1 min each to determine Fire Flow and also to exercise moving parts.

Also you will notice that our Monthly report will be different next month. Mainly the changes will be to the graphs and some data that is on the reports. Hopefully this will make the monthly report easier to use and understand. We have switched our Fire Reporting Software to a more efficient Web-Based system, Hence the change in the appearance of the reports.
